Read French blogs to learn French

As I always say, having fun is key to learn a language. The more fun you bring to your learning journey, the faster you will learn. However, it is not always easy to find some extra time in our busy schedules for a time-consuming activity such as learning a new language.

So why not try to replace some activities that you are already doing in your native language by the same activity in French? Let’s say that you love fashion and that you already follow some fashion bloggers. Why don’t you use this time to follow a French blogger instead? You will learn about fashion and improve your reading comprehension skills at the same time!

Being able to understand a written text is an important part of your learning journey and the best way to improve your reading comprehension skills is to read about something you are interested in.

A few tips

  • Read the article a first time without stopping at each and every single word you don’t understand. Try to get the general idea. Enjoy what you are reading.
  • Then take a closer look and re-read several times the passages that you find more difficult.
  • Make a list with the words you didn’t know and try to memorize them. You can also make flashcards if this is what best works for you. I recommend that you write them down together with the whole sentence to make sure you use the words in the right context.
  • What is great about blogs is that you will learn many slang words and current turn of phrases commonly used by French speakers.
  • Don’t forget to read the comments section of the blog, and why not leave a comment in French to tell the author what you thought about the article?
